Tring-Tring ... Hello who, 'I'm speaking to the tax department ...' | Do not panic when you receive such calls

If you have an indirect tax such as service tax, excise arrears before the GST comes into force or the tax liability is related to the tax tribunal, you may get an official call from the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) . Do not be afraid of the phone because the matter of your benefit is hidden in it. The tax department just wants to win your trust.

CBIC officers will call themselves 1.80 lakh people whose liability is pending before coming to GST or they are being sued in any tribunal or court. These phones will be made under the government's Sabka Vishwas Scheme (Legasy Dispute Resolution Scheme 2019). This plan was announced in this year's general budget. The point of your work under the scheme is that if your outstanding service tax or excise duty is Rs 50 lakh, then there is 60% relief on settling under the scheme and 40% relief can be given if it is outstanding above this. In some cases up to 70% relief can be given.

So far, 5472 crore rupees have been declared through this scheme. The plan is to close on 31 December 2019. The government had started this scheme because Rs 3.6 lakh crore was stuck in 1.83 lakh cases. The government wanted to recover it but the cases fell to court cases. Small taxpayers and MSME sector firms have been facing a lot of trouble due to hanging tax liabilities because they take both time and money. Through this scheme, the government wanted that people get a chance to settle the case and on the pretext of this, the government also gets the outstanding amount.
